Canada as the EU’s first “associate member” is one hell of a sentence to wake up to. The details aren’t there yet, but deeper ties on trade, defence, energy and technology? This is good, and odd as we figure out the relationship. I'm here for it. Very strange times. Very interesting times. ☕🇨🇦🇪🇺

Morning. Calgary-Shaw: more of this. No to 9. Yes to stay. Bell proposes a $50B sovereign data hub. I wrote about why that matters. Trump dropped salt tariff. Needed us after all. Alert Bay’s pole came down. Its people stand. Poilievre’s misinformation isn’t opposition. It’s noise. Smarten up. ☕🇨🇦
Morning. Canada pitches stability to global investors. "We have what the world wants.", PM Carney. Ireland saved its whiskey. Maith sibh! Russia hit the Kyiv–Warsaw train; Trump scolded Ukraine. Canada eyes an EU Ukraine loan, not membership. Sovereign-site post is up. Coffee on. ☕🇨🇦
Someone asked where I host my site. Fair question, given how much I write about Canadian sovereignty. The answer: it’s more Canadian than it was, less sovereign than I’d like, and still has a few foreign cables attached. So I opened the box. “Assembled in Canada.”
Morning. Turnip calls our tariffs discriminatory, then bans our goods. Fair trade means Canada does as it’s told, apparently. AP: still Lake Ontario. Space Force found the Empire’s tailor. Very ’30s. Iceland summoned the ambassador. Gander, take note. Respect goes both ways. Coffee on. ☕🇨🇦
Morning. Canada’s $27.6B counter-tariffs are live. A non-meme response. Trump threatens Bombardier. Its 3,500 U.S. workers and 2,800 suppliers would like a word. Reste forte, Québec. Sapporo shifts some production south. Sleeman stays. Trust burns faster than it rebuilds. Coffee on. ☕🇨🇦
I added a new section to my site: Buy Canadian. 🇨🇦 It’s not meant to be a giant directory. Think of it as a waypoint for Canadian resources, directories and places to start when you want to spend, build and support here. Have something I should add? Drop it in the comments and I’ll check it out.
Morning. Labour Day. Canadian wool is walking away from the U.S. Investors with trillions arrive here looking for stability. Turnip thinks Ottawa sets the dollar before coffee. 85% back walking from his “deal.” Putin: leave Ukraine. Pay for what you broke. Saxony-Anhalt… yikes. Coffee on. ☕🇨🇦
I’ve been spending a little more time on @gandersocial.ca . The feed feels different. People tell stories. Founders answer questions. Bugs get called bugs. Chapman’s posts about ice cream. I wrote about why that matters to me, and why digital sovereignty is more than where we park the servers.
Morning. Bombardier gets Mississauga wing plant. Build here. PP: stay in Canada, vote Liberal out. Almost. Albertans: vote. Hamilton: 29%. Counter-tariffs Monday. A deal isn’t caving. Turnip doesn’t need Canada? Four million oil barrels daily disagree. Gander: Hoekstra for 9/11? No. Coffee on. ☕🇨🇦
